hello!

—————————> scroll down for my contact form————————————————-

I am a photographer, educator, and writer, with a Master’s Degree in Learning Design and Technology. My photography business began in San Francisco nearly 15 years ago, with private commissions—documentary family stories and portraiture—and soon grew to include clients such as Stanford Children’s Hospital and The George Lucas Educational Foundation.

I have worked many different jobs over the years and each experience has shaped how I see and how I move in this world. I had a paper route, I mowed lawns. I sold PVC piping and made keys at the local hardware store. I worked in a library. I worked at the university post office. I peeled carrots in the cafeteria in college before classes. I babysat, I waited tables. I was a dishwasher. I taught French in Mississippi through Teach for America. I was an assistant-editor in a publishing company. I taught swim classes. I answered phones for a mail order party favor company. I was a nanny. I managed animators creating a feature-length animation (think Bugs). I worked with a former National Geographic photographer on a global project involving data visualization and human connection. I oversaw a million dollar grant and developed content for engineering educators in Silicon Valley. I tutored students in creative writing.

In 2020, I moved from San Francisco to Somesville, Maine, where I now live in an 1800s farmhouse (my husband’s childhood home) with our daughter and a 2 pound bunny named Chestnut Mochi. I am learning about lupines and bladderwrack, tides and turnips. I have been fortunate to meet and collaborate to help tell the stories of artists, authors, musicians, families, elopements, weddings, small businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations in Maine.

In the Spring and Fall I often return to the Bay Area to visit the foghorns and eat an artichoke.

Photography is deeply personal to me. As humans, we make sense of the world through telling stories, and visuals are a language that connects us. When we make images, we can show the world how we see. Looking at others’ images is a reminder that no one sees the world in the same way.

The images you make and share communicate something about the values you hold, and the way you want people to engage with you. The images we make today are love letters, visual time capsules. My process with clients—whether individuals, small businesses, or large organizations—is to foster conversation and reflection around what matters to you: what is the story of your life?

I am available for editorial, commercial and personal commissions, and collaborations. —Katherine
